PRP Alpha Seats- Our In-Depth Review

Some things you just shouldn’t ride without…

We love it. These three words sum it all up- quite honestly, we won’t ever be able to run anything else after a year in the mighty PRP Alpha. It has forever changed the way we define safety equipment and our priorities in the never-ending hunt for performance. You need new seats… don’t try and convince yourself that the OEM is working OK. That’s the same exact mistake we made about two years ago- with our revalved suspension, a set of generic racing harnesses, and an overly accepting attitude, we thought that our OEM seats were adequate. NO! Everything about your aftermarket PRP seats will enhance your ride.

The quality, for one, is unmatched with this (or really any) PRP product. How do we know this? Considering the last 6 months, we’ve crawled into the Can-Am approximately 1000 times- with each, our boots scrape across the vinyl double-sewn seat cushions. Any time a co-driver (or passenger) is not present, our burly tool bags rest atop the passenger Alpha seat. With each massive high-speed turn, these bags rub back-and-forth against the seat’s surface. Any time we exit the vehicle? Oh yes, a solid boot gets planted into the center of the Alpha to propel us out and over the high restrictive custom door bars of our rig. With over a year of this type of abuse, the seat looks just as good as the day we rescued it out of the UPS box. Pressure washing? No problem- our X3 is pressure-washed constantly and the vinyl of the Alpha seat does a phenomenal job at maintaining cleanliness and composure.

Safety and Comfort

While we wouldn’t particularly recommend swapping the family couch out with this bad boy, it is going to make you spend much more quality time with your UTV. The comfort of the Alpha seat, or any PRP seat for that matter, is worlds beyond that offered by the OEM. Something about the cushions and the fiberglass seat body, potentially, just make this upgrade one of the best on the entire vehicle. The bump absorption offered by a quality seat can do exceptional work where the suspension re-valve doesn’t.

OEM seats also do a horrendous job of holding the rider in place. This exacerbates the choppiness of rough terrain to a pretty resounding degree. The Alpha seat, as it’s designed for racing, is beyond exceptional with its containment capabilities. The Alpha’s ergonomics conform to your body and literally create a glove-fit with the rider: this will prevent you from getting tossed up and down and side-to-side. Unfortunately, words really can’t express the magnitude of this benefit. Stop using the OEM!

What Else?

While we’ll save the details, many of the elements that make this seat so incredibly comfortable are the same exact elements that make it a huge safety facilitator. The ‘glove-like’ fit of the seat, as we feel, mitigates harmful jostling that may be caused from a roll-over or hard bump. Another obvious benefit is the ergonomically situated harness slots and submarine belt slot: these openings in the Alpha seat position the harnesses appropriately for maximum efficacy (no weird sliding or binding). Again, we love this seat and we think you will too.


This is the only part of the entire review where we aren’t 100% stoked- we wish that this seat could be more affordable/available for a wider audience. Our goal is to be as honest as we can, on this site, and we’d be performing a huge disservice if we tried convincing you that $2000 was an attainable upgrade for all. That being said, PRP understands this and has integrated many of these characteristics into their lineup of suspension seats. In some aspects, these seats may even exceed the comfort offered by the Alpha- after all, anything with the PRP namesake is going to exceed all expectations. Seriously.


Why is PRP so great? You can literally make any of these seats 100% your own. Not 95%, not 80%, but 100% custom to you. Depending on how crazy you want to get on color/stitching/cloth options, you can literally design a seat combination that you will never see on another vehicle. Ever. We absolutely love this characteristic- if you’re going to make an upgrade, you may as well do it exactly the way you want. The fact that PRP offers this across the majority of their lineups is extraordinarily impressive (especially with their lightning shipment speed).
