KOH 2020 Preparations (Week 2)
Roll Cage Construction
Stage 1
Week 2
Roll Cage Progress
Week 2 of the build wraps up the main structure of the roll cage- essentially, this consists of everything in the immediate vicinity of the cabin. Intrusion bars, side hoops, rear-down bars, roof diagonals, a-pillar supports, and door bars all fall within this category. One large consideration in building this region of the cage was in accessibility- door bars are required for side impact protection but for this build, we decided on keeping the door functionality for ease of access. The routing of the door bar was complimented with a vertical a-pillar support to create a N-structure for optimal in and out vehicle access.

Another incredible benefit of this structure is in frame rigidity. Unfortunately, the Can-Am factory frame is built like one big parallelogram- tons of squares and yet, almost zero triangulation. This facilitates all types of frame fatigue over excessive use (like from racing) and will ultimately crack structural welds.
Design Elements
- Singular Intrusion Bar for Visibility
- Center Strung Rear Down Bars for Rigidity
- N-Structure Door Bars for Accessibility
- 48 Degree A-Pillar for Rollover Strength
- Tubular Frame Gusseting to Prevent Weld Fracture
